Yasmine Iliya, PhD
Dr. Yasmine A. Iliya holds a PhD in expressive arts therapies from Lesley University and MA in music therapy from New York University. She is a licensed therapist and has published numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed articles in international academic journals such as Death Studies, Nordic Journal of Music Therapy, Journal of Applied Arts and Health, and Music Therapy Perspectives. She is currently on the Editorial Board of Music Therapy Perspectives.
Dr. Iliya is an adjunct assistant professor in the graduate programs at New York University and Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, as well as Molloy College, where she teaches on conducting research and writing theses. She has taught and coached numerous graduate students on how to write literature reviews, use APA formatting, articulate research methods and findings, and organize theses and dissertations. Dr. Iliya has years of experience serving as a thesis advisor and thesis committee member for graduate students.
Dr. Iliya has 10 years of experience working as a clinician with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and chemical addiction. She also maintained a private practice in Manhattan and Brooklyn, where she had the privilege of working with individuals who were coping with anxiety, depression, and grief. She has specific clinical and research expertise with adults who are grieving, and uses methods that include improvisational singing to help survivors maintain a bond with their deceased loved one.
Dr. Iliya has several years of experience editing academic manuscripts, theses, and dissertations for graduate students, doctoral candidates, and professionals seeking publication. She has worked with psychology, social work, and creative arts therapy students from schools including New York University, Montclair State University, SUNY New Paltz, School of Visual Arts, Pratt Institute, Temple University, Lesley University, and Molloy College. Her goal is to make writing an empowering process for every professional and student seeking academic success.
Clinically, she currently works in private practice seeing adult clients.
